Saint George and the dragon.

Karlsruhe 1999: German, early 16th century.
Aschaffenburg 2002: Nuremberg (?), c. 1496.
Regensburg 2006: Nuremberg?, c. 1500.
Museum opinion 2013: Southern Germany, late 15th century or c. 1500.


Polychromy - Gilding
Extensive traces of gilding (later): hair, belt.

Carved in the round.

Object Condition
Saint George's right arm and the dragon's tongue have broken off and been glued back into place.
Missing: hand and sword of saint George (possibly later additions) and dragon's right ear (later addition).

This pendant comes from the same monstrance as Inv. G 907 in Cologne, Museum für Angewandte Kunst. See related objects.
