Angels holding navettes and swinging censers in the spandrels.
Wing, right
Crucifixion; Virgin supported by Holy Women; saint John the Evangelist and onlookers holding scrolls; angel holding the sun and moon.
Angels crying in the spandrels.

Williamson and Davies 2014: French, c. 1350-1375. Radiocarbon dating (2011): 95.4% probability that the elephant died between 1281 and 1394.

Hinges
Two hinges (later).

Reverse
Flat and smooth.

Object Condition
Broken around the hinges.
Missing: nose of one of the Magi.

Provenance
Possenti collection, Fabriano: Possenti da Fabriano sale, Florence, 1-10 April 1880, lot 45 (?). Purchased by the museum from the art dealer A. Marveco, Brompton, in 1889.
