Wings, left and right
Two standing angels holding candlesticks.
Centre panel
Seated Virgin and Child (Vierge glorieuse); Christ standing on the Virgin’s left knee; Christ holding a fruit in his left hand; Virgin holding a bird in her right hand; angel crowning the Virgin.

Warren 2014: probably France, c. 1360.

Hinges
Two sets of two modern hinges.

Polychromy - Gilding
Traces of polychromy: painted trefoil in the gable.

Reverse
Centre panel chamfered along the outer edges.

Object Condition
The old hinges broken and replaced by a long strip of gilt metal on each side.
Centre finial chipped.

Comments
Crosshatched underside.

Provenance
Collection of Mrs Powys: her sale, Bath, 1942; collection of John Francis Mallett; his bequest to the Museum in 1947; Department of Western Art (WA1947.191.205); transferred to the Department of Antiquities in May 2008.
