Panel 1: Standing Virgin and Child (Vierge glorieuse); two standing angels holding candlesticks.
Panel 2: Crucifixion with the Virgin and saint John the Evangelist; sun and moon.

Institution's opinion 2013: France, 14th century.

Polychromy - Gilding
Traces of gilding and polychromy: gold (hair), green (spandrels, architectural details, candles).

Reverse
Hidden by the frame.

Object Condition
Hole (?) in each spandrel. The right wing is broken in two pieces which have been glued back together.

Comments
These two panels are now contained in a neo-Gothic wooden frame. It was designed by Dr. Boch and realised by sculptor Johann Rint (b. 1814, d. 1900).
Historical photograph showing metal frame in the Maciet albums (Collection Maciet, Bibliothèque des Arts décoratifs, Paris). In these albums, this piece is mistakenly identified as Koechlin 389.

Provenance
Acquired by the abbey in 1865.
