Ivory;silver-gilt (fittings and additions)

Height: 140 mm (not including feet)
Width: 63 mm (at the base)

Saint George and the dragon; armour decorated with hanging bells; princess praying; king and queen in castle.

Koechlin 1924: Westphalia, 15th century.
Longhurst 1929: German (Westphalian), 15th century (?).
Williamson and Davies 2014: French (Paris) or German (Cologne), about 1850.


Attribution
Unknown

Reverse
Flat and smooth. Upper back recessed slightly. Excavated section at the left, possibly to accommodate a light.
Label with inscription: '581'.

Object Condition
Three small pin holes in the back, now filled with ivory plugs.
Two large holes in the back close to the base.

Comments
Horse trappings and reins and saint's spurs made in silver-gilt.

Hollingworth Magniac collection, Colworth, Bedfordshire, by 1862: sale, Christie, Manson and Woods, London, 5 July 1892, lot 260; collection of George Salting, London: bequeathed to the museum in 1910.
