Death of the Virgin (Dormition); apostles including saint John the Evangelist holding a martyr's palm; apostle holding a cross; apostle holding an aspergillum and an open book (possibly saint Peter); seated apostle with glasses; Holy Women; mirror at the head of the bed; two angels.
Crosshatched background. Foliated decoration. Roped border. Tracery.

Molinier 1890: French, end of the 15th - beginning of the 16th century.

Curved.
Ivory handle with architectural pattern, in the shape of a flying buttress decorated with an arch.

Object Condition
Rectangular portion cut out above the heads of the apostles. Two small holes on reverse.

Collection of Frédéric Spitzer, Paris (at least in 1890): his sale, Chevallier and Mannheim, Paris, 17 April 1893, lot 155. Sale, Hampel, Munich, 11 April 2013, lot 229; acquired at this sale by the Gandur Foundation.
