Walrus ivory;copper and steel (blade)

Height: 115mm

Depth: 20 mm (handle)

Four busts: two veiled ladies; two youths wearing chaplets pierced with small holes.
Side 1: medallion enclosing a quatrefoil containing the face of a woman.
Side 2: medallion enclosing a quatrefoil containing the face of a man.

Darcel 1860: France, end of the 13th century.

Very similar to Koechlin 1141, now at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (278-1867).

Bouvier collection, Amiens, before 1860. Collection of Alexander Petrovich Basilewski (b. 1829, d. 1899), Paris, from 1874; acquired by the Hermitage in 1885.
