Ivory;ebony (staff)

Height: 1620mm (full crozier); 185mm
Width: 90mm (ivory only)

Side 1: Crucifixion with the Virgin and saint John the Evangelist.
Side 2: Standing Virgin and Child (Vierge glorieuse).
Kneeling angel supporting the volute. Foliated decoration: vine leaf.

Trento 2002: France, 2nd quarter of the 14th century.

Carved in the round.

Comments
The crozier contains a card label with a cursive inscription 'pastorale di avorio con manico di ebano/si dice Pastorale di S.Eusebio, Vescovo di Vercelli' and a second label with '64'.

Provenance
May have been purchased by Lombardo della Torre, bishop of Vercelli, for his chapel in the parish church of Santo Stefano in Biella (destroyed in 1872)(see Astrua 1987 and Trento 2002).
