Ivory

Crucifixion; swooning Virgin supported by Holy Women; saint John the Evangelist and onlookers; sun and moon.
Pointed trefoils and incised trefoils.

Museum's opinion 2013: French, 14th century (?).

Reverse
Reverse divided into 5 compartments, the central one being circular. This indicates that this panel originally was part of a set of writing tablets. Traces of glue. Pen inscriptions: '41', '80'. Attached label with current inventory number. White label with ink inscription: 'Adquirido porlo legado Valmor. Vide: £ 4' n. 1067'.

Object Condition
Central hole in the upper part of the panel.

Provenance
Acquired from José Stepansky in 1924 by the Portuguese state thanks to the Valmôr fund.
