Side 1: Crenellated towers linked by an arch; trees.
Side 2: Crenellated towers linked by an arch.

Museum's opinion 2010: 12th century.


Trace of an arch on the back of side 1.

Object Condition
Missing: central piece of ivory (probably with a central tower) and lower part of the object (see Inv. 4954, also in the Museum of London, for an example of an intact mirror case of similar kind).

Made of three different pieces joined by four copper alloy rivets. Similar to Inv. 4954, also in the Museum of London.

Found at Tokenhouse Yard EC2 (City of London) in 1865. On long-term loan to since 1959 from the Cuming Museum, Southwark (as Acc. C11784).
