The back of the reliefs is hidden by the metal frame. The metal frame has a Latin inscription running along its edges, fashioned in metal: 'Ave, Regina Celorum'.
Comments
The composition derives from a painted Annunciation by Filippo Lippi of c. 1450 (Munich, Alte Pinakothek, Inv. no. 1072), formerly in the convent of the Suore Murate in Florence (see Williamson and Davies 2014).
Provenance
Collection of Sir Julius Wernher (d. 1912), Bath House, London; collection of Lady Ludlow (in 1923); on loan to English Heritage and displayed at Ranger's House since 2002.
