Three Holy Women at the Tomb, with angel seated on the tomb and three soldiers asleep under a trefoil arch; ointment pots.

Museum's opinion 2011: France, 2nd quarter of the 14th century.


Attribution
Unknown

Reverse
Slightly curved, with crosshatching in the lower part. Label with provenance information.

Object Condition
Two holes plugged with ivory on the tomb.
Parts seem to have been shaved at the base of the piece, on either side. Wings of the angel damaged.

Comments
This relief would have originally been part of a larger ensemble, within a structure possibly made of a different material.

Provenance
Collection of Charles Fairfax-Murray (b. 1849, d. 1919): his bequest to the Museum in May 1917.
