Polychromy - Gilding
Traces of polychromy (several layers: only the red cross behind the head of the Child is original; see unpublished report by A. Cascio and J. Levy, 1988).

Object Condition
Scratches for glue where the object would be attached to the pole.
Missing: candlesticks held by the angels.
Provenance
Mistakenly said to have belonged to saint Robert (d. 1110) and to have come from the abbey of Citeaux. Pierre Révoil collection, Lyon. Acquired by the Musée du Louvre in 1828.
