Couple playing chess in a tent; courting couple (meeting of lovers); man with his left hand around the pole supporting the tent; lady holding two chess pieces in her left hand (missing).
Foliated corner terminals.

Koechlin Number: 1052

Koechlin 1924 and Vitali 1976: France, mid 14th century.
Chiesi 2011: France (Paris), 1320-1340.


Back turned with a depression for (missing) mirror.

Object Condition
Missing: chess pieces held by the lady.
The lower left corner terminal has broken away and was glued back into place.
Two holes.

Chiesi (2011) argues that the other half of this mirror case is now in Bologna (Inv. 700).

Carrand collection: bequeathed by Louis Carrand (d. 1888) to the Museo del Bargello in 1888.
