Walrus ivory

Enthroned bishop with mitre, book and crozier; hanging purse.

Liebgott 1985: Scandinavia, 13th century.
Museum's opinion 2013: Scandinavia, 13th century.


Carved in the round.

Object Condition
Missing: upper part of the mitre.
Face very worn. Precious stones or coloured glass probably were fitted in the eye sockets.

Found at the Riserup vicarage, Falster island, in 1848.
