Standing Virgin and Child; Christ lying in the arms of the Virgin; bare-chested Christ; Christ holding a fruit in his left hand; crown.

Museum's opinion 2013: France or Flanders (?), last quarter of the 15th century.

Polychromy - Gilding
Extensive traces of polychromy and gilding: gold (crown, hair; Virgin's cloak); red (Christ's mouth; crown); blue (shoe; gems in the crown; Virgin's cloak).

Reverse
Carved in round. Crosshatching on the bottom.
On the bottom: label with inscription: 'COLLECTION DU DR P. THOBY NANTES XIII'. On the pedestal: labels with inscriptions: 'Vierge époque Louis XIII', '17/FX', 'EXPOSITION D'ART RELIGIEUX 1933, LA PSALLETTE DE NANTES, 416'.

Object Condition
The head of Virgin broke off and was glued back into place.
Missing: parts of the crown, at the front and at the back.
Hole in the underside.

Provenance
Collection of Dr. Paul Thoby, Nantes (bought from art dealer Roberteau in Nantes on 18 December 1930; no. XIII in Thoby's collection): his bequest to the museum in 1969.
