Seated Virgin and Child; Christ in long robe; Christ seated on the Virgin's left knee; crown; bench; blessing gesture; Christ holding a fruit in his left hand.
Sides of the bench decorated with painted tracery (trefoils enclosed in a medallion).

Polychromy - Gilding
Traces of gilding and polychromy: gold (crown and veil of the Virgin; pattern along the Virgin's robe; robe of Christ), green ? (lining of the Virgin's cloak), and remains of colours in the Virgin's robe and Christ's robe; painted tracery (trefoils enclosed in a medallion) on the sides of the bench.

Reverse
Carved in the round but lower relief on the back.
Back of the bench flat with an engraved or painted circle.

Object Condition
Missing: head of Christ and right forearm of the Virgin (modern replacements; possibly also the right arm and left forearm of Christ); part of the Virgin's veil, to the right of her face.
Crown partly broken.

Provenance
Said to have come from Boulogne-sur-Mer and to have been brought to Champagne by M. de Torci, priest of Unienville (Chauvet 1889; Koechlin 1924). Kept in the Unienville Church (Aube) from 1807; date of transfer to the Cathedral Treasury unknown.
