Wing, left
Register 1: Coronation of the Virgin; angel crowning the Virgin; two angels holding a large cloth of honour; Christ holding a sceptre; clouds.
Register 2: Annunciation. Visitation.
Wing, right
Register 1: Death of the Virgin (Dormition); Christ holding the soul of the Virgin; apostles; clouds.
Register 2: Adoration of the Magi.

Randall 1993: English, 1st quarter of the 14th century.


Attribution
Possibly from the same workshop as a diptych in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (521-1893) (Randall 1993).

Hinges
Two hinges. One hinge broken.

Polychromy - Gilding
Extensive gilding and polychromy: gold (decorated background where only the bole remains; along the hems; pattern on the cloth of honour; book clasps; hair; clouds), green (cloth of honour), black (throne; eye pupils), red (books; cross of Christ's halo; lining of the kings' robes; moulding) and blue (garments).

Reverse
Flat and smooth.
Round custom stamp with inscription on the back of the right wing: 'DOGANA DI FIRENZE. 17 AGO. 12 [17 August 1912]'.

Object Condition
Right wing broken around the lower hinge. Small chip at the upper left corner of the right wing.
