Trinity; God the Father holding Christ on the cross; Gnadenstuhl (Throne of Mercy); angel holding a lily; angel holding a sword; baldachin; dove of the Holy Spirit; emblems and monogram of Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy (fire steel and flint; double 'e').
Crosshatched background.
Carved inscription: 'VERI ADORATORES ADORABVNT PATREM IN SPIRITV ET VERITATE IHO[ANN]IS 4°' (The true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth. John 4, 23).

Vienna 1991: Burgundian-Netherlandish, c. 1453-1467. The date is based on the presence of heraldic emblems (fire steel and flint; double 'e') used by Duke Philip the Good from 1453 to 1467.


May have been made for Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy (d. 1467) (see inscription). Acquired in 1971 from a private individual.
