Christ and the Samaritan woman; house; well; trees; jug; apostles.
Inscription in gold on the well: 'MULIER DA MIHI BIBERE' and along the hems.

Volbach 1923: Netherlands, late 15th century.
Museum's opinion 2010: Netherlandish or Upper Rhenish, c. 1500-1510.

Extensive traces polychromy (green) and gilding: patterns on Christ's robe and along the hems, inscriptions, hair, background, ground, etc.

Collection of Mortimer Schiff, Paris: his sale, Leman and Mannheim, Hôtel Drouot, Paris, 13-17 March 1905, lot 282. Given in 1913 by the Kaiser Friedrich-Museums.
