Ivory (volute);bone, bronze, silver- and gold-plated staff

Height: 365mm (volute); 1770mm (total)

Lamb of God (Agnus Dei); dove; monster swallowing the base of the volute (dragon).
Foliated decoration. Gold painted inscription: 'AVE MARIA GRATIA PLENA'.

Santi 1969: Central Italy, 14th century.
Museum's opinion 2011: Central Italy, 14th century (ivory and bone), 16th century (bronze).

Polychromy - Gilding
Extensive gilding and polychromy: gold (bird), black, red (dragon's mouth), blue. Gold painted inscription: 'AVE MARIA GRATIA PLENA'.

Reverse
Carved in the round.

Provenance
From the Convent of Santa Giuliana in Perugia; the religious community moved to Santa Maria di Monteluce after 1862, taking the crozier with them; transferred to the Pinacoteca in 1910.
