Seated Virgin and Child; Christ standing on the Virgin's left knee; Christ walking in the Virgin's lap; Christ playing with the cord of the Virgin's cloak; belt; bench.

Polychromy - Gilding
Extensive traces of gilding (hair) and polychromy: dark blue (lining of the Virgin's cloak), gold and blue patterns along the hems, red (lining of the veil; bench), green (outside of the veil; ground).

Reverse
Carved in the round.

Object Condition
Missing: head of Christ; right forearm of the Virgin. Circular hole in the top of the Virgin's head. Circular dowel-hole and crosshatching on the underside of the base for fixing the statuette to a separate base.

Collection of M. Larcade, Paris. Collection of E. and M. Kofler-Truniger, Lucerne. collection of Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza (b. 1921, d. 2002), Castagnola-Lugano (bought on 26 April 1971); thence by descent to the present owner.
