Side 1: standing queen handing banners to two kneeling knights in armour; fashionable dress; shields.
Side 2: soldiers defending a castle; man with a pike being attacked by a dog; lady; merchants carrying goods in baskets; merchant raising his hand.

Warren 2014: North Italian, early 15th century.

Traces of gilding and polychromy: gold, red and green.

Reverse
Carved on both sides.

Object Condition
One of the lower corners chipped.

Comments
Along the right edge, no. '12' incised and letters 'OD' (?). Inscription 'M.222' (Mallett collection number).

Provenance
Collection of Edward Joseph: his sale, Christie's, London, 6 May 1890, lot 837; bought by Murray Marks (£42). Collection of Charles Fairfax Murray (b. 1849, d. 1919). Iden, art dealer (in 1946); collection of John Francis Mallett; his bequest to the Museum in 1947.
