Register 1: Visitation.
Register 2: Adoring Magi (part of Adoration of the Magi continued on centre panel).
Centre panel
Standing Virgin and Child; Virgin holding a flower in her right hand; Christ holding a fruit in his left hand.
Wing, right
Register 1: Nativity; swaddled Christ.
Register 2: Presentation in the Temple; Virgin holding Christ.

Museum's opinion 2015: French (?), 14th century.


Attribution
Unknown

Hinges
Two hinges on either side.

Polychromy - Gilding
Traces of polychromy: traces of painted medallions in the gables.

Reverse
Back of the wings flat and smooth. Back of the centre panel with longer edges chamfered.

Object Condition
Ivory repairs to the bottom of the centre panel at the back and to the outer edge of the left wing (damage probably caused by a lost clasp). Damage where the clasp would have been on the edge of the right wing. Traces of an earlier set of hinges (plugged holes).

Provenance
Collection of William Maskell (b. 1814, d. 1890); bought from him by the British Museum in 1856.
