Crucifixion with thieves; swooning Virgin kneeling, supported by Holy Women; saint John the Evangelist praying; Longinus piercing Christ's side; Stephaton giving Christ vinegar; soldiers throwing dice for Christ's seamless garment; crowd of onlookers and soldiers; horses; trees; sun and moon; rugged cross.

Betrayal (Taking of Christ; Kiss of Judas); Christ restores Malchus' ear, cut by saint Peter; man holding a lantern. Death of Judas (Judas hanging). Carrying of the Cross with the Virgin and Holy Women helping Christ; crowd of onlookers and soldiers; house; soldier with a shield with a face; soldiers in armournails; hammer.
Border of dentils. Tracery. Rosettes. Row of arches.

Hinges
Two missing hinges (repaired).

Object Condition
Vertical cracks through the left wing. Repairs to the borders where the hinges once were.

Comments
The wings of this diptych are now part of the binding of a French 15th-century book of hours for the use of Rome (containing a number of Franciscan saints and saints related to the Rodez diocese).

Provenance
Collection of James Ludovic Lindsay (b. 1847, d. 1913), 26th Earl of Crawford; purchased in 1901 with other manuscripts from the Bibliotheca Lindesiana by Enriqueta Rylands (b. 1843, d. 1908) for the John Rylands Library.
