Seated Virgin and Child (Virgo Lactans); Christ standing in the Virgin's lap; Christ in long robe; bench.


Koechlin Number: 0695

Koechlin 1924: France, 2nd half of 14th century.
Jülich 2007: Rhineland, 2nd half of 14th century.


Attribution
Follower of the Atelier of the Kremsmünster Diptych (Koechlin 1924)

Reverse
Carved in the round. Burnt area.

Object Condition
Chipped around the Virgin's feet and in her veil; burn on the back.
Missing: crown of the Virgin and stem of flowers in her hand.
Drill hole at the bottom with remains of a pin (probably original); two modern drill holes (used to attach object to base).

Provenance
Collection of Baron von Hüpsch (b. 1730, d. 1805), Cologne; acquired in 1805 by the Museum.
