Crucifixion with the Virgin and saint John the Evangelist; skull of Adam at the foot of the cross; titulus with inscription INRI.
Twisted columns; foliated decoration in the spandrels.

Reverse
Curved. The handle which was originally set into a chamfered slot in the back has been lost.

Object Condition
Worn.
Missing a piece of ivory caused by the drilling of a later hole in the upper part of the pax.
Two smaller holes on either side.

Provenance
Acquired by the Museum in 1868.
