Side 1: couples holding hands (dancing?); trees.
Side 2: game of hot cockles (jeu de haute coquille); couple embracing; trees.

Naples 1981: Venetian workshop, mid-15th century.

Polychromy - Gilding
Faint traces of polychromy: blue (trees), red (lips).

Reverse
Carved on both sides.

Object Condition
Missing: one of the sides; one of the fine teeth.

Comments
The edge of the comb is quite rounded on one side.

Provenance
Collection of Placido de Sangro, Duke of Martina (b. 1829, d. 1891) (collection assembled in the 2nd half of the 19th century): given by his heirs to the city of Naples in 1911; housed at the Villa Floridiana since 1931.
