Curved. The handle which was originally set into a chamfered slot in the back has been lost.
Modern ink inscription: 'Ivory pax with Annunciation. Late 15th century'.
Object Condition
Some cracks on surface. Crack in the upper border.
Central hole in the upper part of the piece. Chipped at the back.
Provenance
Hearn collection, Menton (probably acquired after Alfred Williams Hearn's death in 1903 by his widow Ellen Hearn; may be the 'baiser de paix' listed in her notebook,, bought at Eastbourne from Thomas Sutton in July 1905 and previously in the Willett collection); given by Mrs Hearn to the museum in 1923.
