Polychromy - Gilding
Traces of polychromy: blue (on the Virgin's mantle under her wrist, green staining elsewhere).
Reverse
Smooth and slightly curved (concave).
Object Condition
Missing: upper part of the Virgin's head, lower part of her cloak and feet, right forearm of Christ.
Christ's forehead is worn.
Provenance
Given by Dr W. L. Hildburgh, London, in 1949 (previously on loan from Dr Hildburgh; a note on the back of a photograph in the V&A departmental archive records that Hildburgh acquired the piece in London in 1926).
