Tournament; jousting knights in armour; couples watching from a balcony; two heralds blowing trumpets; trees; shields.
Chevron border. Crosshatched background.Corner terminals: four crouching hybrids.

Catalogue 1910: French, 15th century or 19th century.
Koechlin 1924: French, 1st half of the 19th century
Mann 1931: French, 1st half of the 14th century or 19th century.
Museum's opinion 2009: French, early 19th century.

Reverse
Back turned with a depression for (missing) mirror. Two modern labels with inscriptions: 'VIII G/ 434' and '434' (corresponds to the Wallace Collection catalogue number).

Object Condition
Missing: upper right corner terminal partly broken.

Comments
This piece forms a pair with S255, also in the Wallace Collection.
