Bishop with mitre and crozier; blessing gesture.

Westwood 1876: Germany, 13th century.

Attribution
Carved in the round. Very damaged.

Object Condition
Damaged by fire.
Missing: hands, parts of the mitre and of the back.

Comments
This piece seems to be part of the same ensemble as Inv. 666 (Volbach 1923), a piece in the Victoria and Albert Museum (Inv. 213-1867) and one formerly in the von Hirsch collection (Sotheby's, London, 22 June 1978, lot 269). See Williamson and Davies 2014.

Bartholdi collection; acquired by the Kunstkammer in 1828; undocumented after 7 April 1945; returned by the Soviet Union to the Museum in 1958.
