Polychromy - Gilding
Traces of gilding: discoloured pigmentation along the hem of the loincloth.

Reverse
Carved in the round. Three holes in the back of Christ. Label with inscription referring to the Hildburgh loan.

Object Condition
Missing: arms (probably made of different pieces of ivory; two dowels remain).
Large hole in Christ's foot and holes in his back to attach him to a cross.
Small chips to right foot and loincloth.

Provenance
Acquired in San Sebastian in 1921 by Dr W.L. Hildburgh, London; given by him to the museum in 1949 (previously on loan from him).
