Crucifixion with the Virgin and saint John the Evangelist; angels holding the sun and the moon.

Museum's opinion 2015: French or Italian, 14th century.

Hinges
Traces of two missing hinges on either side.

Reverse
Smooth. The back of the panel is projecting forward so that the cross section is triangular.
Label with inscription: 'Ivory pax. Bought at Dowell's. Dec. '91 £ 4-14-6'. Light blue label with the number '42'.

Object Condition
Edges chipped. Very worn.

Provenance
Collection of Sir William Fettes Douglas (b. 1822, d. 1891), Scottish painter; bought by the museum in 1891 from Dowell's (see label on the back).
