Ivory

Standing Virgin and Child (Vierge glorieuse); two standing angels holding candlesticks; angel crowning the Virgin.
Pointed trefoils in the spandrels.


Koechlin Number: 0408

Koechlin 1912: 2nd quarter of the 14th century.
Koechlin 1924: France, 2nd third of the 14th century.
Randall 1993: French (Paris?), 1340-1360.

Unknown

Hinges
Traces of two missing hinges on the right side.

Reverse
Flat and smooth. Several incised lines in semi-circle.
White round label with the printed inscription 'Collection Émile Baboin'. Blue and white round label with the ink inscription '5'.

Object Condition
Drilled later holes for mounting (all filled with putty): one large hole in the gable, one in the Virgin's robe and three in the left angel's wing.
Crack in the lower right corner.

Provenance
Emile Baboin collection, Lyons (at least 1912-1924). Bought from Raphael Stora, New York, in 1952.
