Crucifixion with the Virgin and saint John the Evangelist; angel holding the sun and the moon; book.
Incised trefoils in the spandrels.

Williamson and Davies 2014: French, c. 1350-1375.


Attribution
Unknown

Reverse
Recessed to receive the wax, with a raised border.
Red residue on the back.

Object Condition
Worn, especially Christ's body and the Virgin's face.
Green discolouration around the edges, possibly from having been in a metal frame.

Provenance
Hearn collection, Menton, probably acquired after the death of Alfred Williams Hearn (b. 1842, d. 1903), by his widow Ellen Hearn; given to the Museum by Mrs. Hearn in 1923.
