Unknown

Polychromy - Gilding
Traces of gilding: red bole for gold (hair and beard, sword handle, hilt, scabbard, reins, along the hems).

Reverse
Carved in the round.

Object Condition
Missing: blade of the sword (may have been made of a separate piece of ivory); section at the base; end of the beggar's crutch.
Vertical surface cracks.

Provenance
Private collection, East Anglia: sold in Norwich (before 1939); Sotheby's, London, 29 June 1939, lot 142: purchased at this sale by the museum through Mallet & Son with assistance from the National Art-Collections Fund.
