Polychromy - Gilding
Traces of polychromy: red and black (lips, eyes, features of the Virgin and Child).

Reverse
Carved in the round.

Object Condition
Missing: left arm of Christ; flower stem held by the Virgin.
Chip on the back of the veil.

Comments
The base contains a relic.

Provenance
Probably a donation of bishop Gerhard vom Berge (bishop from 1365 to 1398) to the Carthusian monastery he had founded in Hildesheim. Bequest of the local clockmaker Todt for the cathedral treasury in the 19th century.
