Castle of Love
On the battlements: youth kneeling before the crowned Frau Minne (Lady Love; Venus); youths with hands in prayer.Three maidens leading three knights in armour into the castle; courting couples (meeting of lovers); lady holding a key; lady holding a stem of flowers; staircase; rose bushes.
Foliated corner terminals; masks in the spandrels.

Reverse
Back turned with a depression for (missing) mirror.

Object Condition
Upper left and lower right corner terminal damaged.
Ivory cracked; large horizontal crack glued.
Modern hole in upper part with attached modern piece above. Two holes with traces of iron in lower corner terminals.
Vertical break (repaired) with some losses to the background. Upper left corner terminal partly broken.

Provenance
Probably from the collection of Baron von Hüpsch (b. 1730, d. 1805), Cologne; acquired in 1805 by the Museum.
