Height: 168mm

Standing Virgin and Child; Christ seated on right arm; Christ touching with his left hand the Virgin's chin; naked Christ; Christ holding his left leg in his right hand.

Lawrence 1969: Northern France, late 14th century.
Randall 1993 and Museum's opinion 2011: Mosan, 3rd quarter of the 14th century.

Carved in the round.

Object Condition
Missing: three fingers in the right hand of Christ; little finger of the Virgin's left hand; object in the Virgin's left hand; the figure of Christ was broken off at some time and was reattached: replacement section in Christ's left arm and in the Virgin's right wrist.
Drapery broken at the base and at knee level on the Virgin's left side.

Drilled pupils.

Collection of Harry Fuld (d. 1932), Frankfurt (before 1932); by descent to his widow, Lucie Mayer-Fuld (née Cajzago), Berlin, and later New York (1932-1942): sold, in 1942, Mayer-Fuld sale, through Raphael Stora,New York, to the Art Institute (Kate S. Buckingham Endowment).
