Wing, left
Evangelists with their symbols
Register 1: saint Mark with his symbol, the lion.
Register 2: saint Matthew writing with his symbol, the angel.
Centre panel
Register 1: Crucifixion with the Virgin and saint John the Evangelist.
Register 2: Entombment (Anointing of Christ's body); tomb decorated with incised owls and skull and bones.
Wing, right
Register 1: saint Luke with his symbol, the ox.
Register 2: saint John the Evangelist writing with his symbol, the eagle.

Museum's opinion 2012: France (?), 19th century.


Attribution
Unknown

Hinges
Two hinges on either side.

Reverse
Flat and smooth. Longer edges of the wings and of the centre panel are rounded.

Object Condition
Holes for lost clasp. Two holes in the upper part of the centre panel for suspension.

Provenance
In Orléans in 1876 (the property of Mme la Marquise de la Touanne, if we accept this piece is no. 1958 in the 1876 exhibition catalogue). Collection of Alexis Pierre: his bequest to the museum on 20 November 1948.
