Crucifixion; Virgin supported by Holy Women; sword piercing the Virgin's chest; saint John the Evangelist and onlooker; soldier.
Incised trefoils.

Randall 1993: Danish or North German, 3rd quarter of the 14th century.
Warren 2014: probably German, late 14th century.


Recessed to receive the wax, with a raised border, except on the right side. Two graffiti scratches: one undecipherable, another in the shape of the letter 'z'. Both shapes have a scratched 'x' on them.

Object Condition
Central hole in the upper part of the panel, possibly to attach other ivory leaves of the writing tablets set.

Gift of J. W. Alsdorf in 1972.
