Standing Virgin and Child; Christ in long robe; Christ seated on left arm; Christ holding a bird in his left hand; two angels crowning the Virgin; brooch.

Glasgow Museums' opinion 2013: possibly German, 2nd half of the 14th century.

Polychromy - Gilding
Traces of polychromy on the lining of the Virgin's cloak.

Reverse
Smooth and slightly curved. Label with inscriptions: '379 311', 'lxx [?] 15'.

Object Condition
Missing: feet of the Virgin (holes drilled in feet) and part of her right hand; forearms and hands of the angels and crown they originally held; angels' wings (one replaced later).

Provenance
Bought by Sir William Burrell from Mr John Hunt, 25 March 1938, for £225; given to the City of Glasgow by Sir William and Constance, Lady Burrell, in 1944.
