Crucifixion; swooning Virgin supported by Holy Women; saint John the Evangelist and onlooker holding a scroll; two angels holding the Sun and the Moon.
Medallions enclosing quatrefoils with protruding cones in the spandrels.

Master of the Mège Diptych

Traces of three missing hinges on the left side.

Polychromy - Gilding
Traces of polychromy.

Reverse
Modern labels with inscriptions: 'VIII G/440', '440' (440 corresponds to the Wallace Collection catalogue number). Label: '5'.

Object Condition
Vertical crack down the whole panel.
Two central holes in the upper part of the panel (later).

Comments
The left wing of this diptych is now in Baltimore (Inv. 71.248). See related object.

Provenance
Receipted bill from Flandin, 6 November 1865 'un coté de diptique', together with other objects for a value of 900 francs); collection of the Count Alfred-Émilien de Nieuwerkerke (b. 1811, d. 1892)(from 1865); purchased from him by Sir Richard Wallace in 1871.
