Width: 25mm (diameter of the stem)

Lamb of God (Agnus Dei); head of monster (dragon).
Foliated decoration.

Guardabassi 1872 and Lupattelli 1882: 11th century.
Cecchini 1932: Umbria, 14th century.
Bàràny-Oberschall 1952: Umbria or Tuscany, late 13th or early 14th century.
Santi 1969: Central Italy, early 14th century.
Museum's opinion 2011: Italy (Umbrian), c. 1300- 1340.


Polychromy - Gilding
Extensive traces of polychromy and gilding: green, gold, red (dots; painted foliage on the staff).

Carved in the round.

Object Condition
Missing: foreleg and both hindlegs of the lamb. A cross or banner is probably also missing (see the Rieti crozier).

Said to have come from the church of Santa Maria di Valdiponte (abbey of Montelabate), Civitella Benazzone (see Lupattelli 1909); in the Pinacoteca collection before 1909.
