Martyrdom of an unidentified female saint. Soul of the martyred saint in a mandorla carried by two angels. Two men on horseback (including a king?); trees.
Crosshatched background. Pointed trefoils in the spandrels.

Dalton 1909: French, late 14th century.
Museum's opinion 2011: French, late 14th century.
Williamson and Davies 2014: Flanders, c. 1400.

Reverse
Flat and smooth. Modern pencil inscription, '1549'. Recessed along the outer edges to be assembled with the rest of the casket.

Object Condition
Missing: fittings, including lock.

Comments
Another panel from this casket is now in the Williams College Museum of Art (Inv. 78.2.6), as was established by Randall in 1993. See related objects.

Provenance
Collection of Major-General Meyrick (b. 1826, d. 1902): donated by him to the British Museum in 1878.
