Hinges
Two modern ring hinges on either side. The lower left hinge is broken.
Polychromy - Gilding
Extensive traces of polychromy and gilding: blue, red, yellow, gold (spandrels, clouds, garment lining, architectural details, decorated background).
Reverse
Ouline of cusped arches on the back of the wings and the centre panel, suggesting they once were painted.
Letter 'A' with a circle around it inscribed in black ink.
Object Condition
Missing: base; object originally held by the Virgin.
Comments
The base and the sides of the central gable are scored. The upper part of the central gable is made of a separate piece of ivory.

Thomas Gambier Parry, Highnam Court (Gloucestershire)(d. 1888): bought in a small village in Friuli before 1860; Sir Hubert Parry (d. 1918), his eldest son (from 1888); Ernest Gambier-Parry (d. 1936), half-brother of Hubert (from 1918); Mark Gambier-Parry (d. 1966), youngest son of Ernest (from 1936); bequeathed to the Courtauld Institute Galleries in 1966.
