Wing, left
Standing Virgin and Child (Vierge glorieuse); angel crowning the Virgin; two standing angels holding navettes and swinging censers.
Wing, right
Crucifixion with the Virgin and saint John the Evangelist; Virgin raising both hands; angel with hands clasped and angel crying; rugged cross.
Angels holding crowns in the spandrels.

Vitali 1976: France, 2nd quarter of the 14th century.
Chiesi 2011: French (Paris), 1300-1330.


Attribution
Atelier of the Christ Judge Diptych (Atelier du diptyque du Christ Juge)(Chiesi 2011)

Hinges
Traces of two missing hinges.

Reverse
Flat and smooth.

Object Condition
Missing: fingers of the angel of the left and of the angel crowning the Virgin. A fragment of the crown and the flower in the left hand of the Virgin.Lost pieces of ivory around the hinges. Many faces seem worn.

Provenance
Carrand collection: bequeathed by Louis Carrand (d. 1888) to the Museo del Bargello in 1888.
