Ivory;silver (remains of hinges)

Height: 83mm
Width: 52mm
Depth: 11mm

Crucifixion, with jet of blood striking the Virgin's chest; saint John the Evangelist crying; swooning Virgin supported by Holy Women; onlooker holding a scroll; cruciform halo; sun and moon.
Pointed trefoils in the spandrels. Pinnacles.

Randall 1993: German, 3rd quarter of the 14th century.

Traces of two missing hinges on the left side.

Object Condition
Missing: part of the jet of blood.
Base slightly trimmed. Four later nail holes in the base.

Provenance
Bought thanks to the M. H. de Young Endowment Fund from Walter Laemmle, Los Angeles, in 1959.
