Recessed to receive the wax, with a raised border.
Traces of paper or parchment at he lower right edge of the panel.
Three paler areas probably corresponding to some original parchment binding arrangement of the writing tablets (see Williamson and Davies 2014).
Object Condition
Central hole in the upper part of the panel. Smaller hole in the lower right corner. Right side worn. Vertical crack beginning in the lower left side.
Provenance
Probably acquired after the death of Alfred Williams Hearn (b. 1842, d. 1903) by his widow Ellen Hearn, Menton: given by her to the Museum in 1923.
